Painted virtuosically on canvas. Chronologically the painting should be close to the painting “Seni by the Corpse of Wallenstein” from 1855. In 1865 Piloty created the subject-related painting “The Death of Caesar”, here too the two colours white and red strongly dominate against a dark background (Lower Saxony State Museum).
