Sir John George Tollemache Sinclair, 3rd Baronet (1824-1912), Politician and Poet, was the son of George Sinclair, 2nd Bt. (b.1790) and Lady Catherine Camilla Tollemache Sinclair. He was Liberal M.P. for the Caithness constituency, Scotland, from 1869 to 1885. He married Emma (d.1889), daughter of William Standish of Duxbury Park, Lancashire and Cockham Hall, Durham in 1853 and had four children. Sinclair owned extensive estates in Caithness and lived at Thurso Castle, Caithness until his death in 1912.

During the troubles between Russia and Turkey he printed, at his own expense, a large book to prove that Russia was right and ought to be supported by England.... But the Emperor of Russia took no notice of him. This made him understand the unworthiness of the men whom he has supported, and his natural indignation of his unappreciated efforts have been vented in verses of a moving character.... His poetry is indeed of no common order, and is therefore beyond the understanding of the present generation, but the day will come when it will be appraised at its true value.
