Die Fasnachtsbilder der Kronenhalle. Eine Episode aus dem Zürcher Kulturleben.

In früheren Jahren feierte Zürich die Fasnacht recht ausgelassen. Sie gehörte zum gesellschaftlichen Leben der ganzen Stadt fast wie das alljährliche Sechseläuten. Der Maskenball im Kongresshaus mit der Vereinigung aller Guggenmusiker um Mitternacht auf der Bühne war der jeweilige Höhepunkt, der bis in die frühen Morgenstunden dauerte.
Auch im berühmten Restaurant Kronenhalle konnten die Gäste festen. Während die Guggenmusiker in der Brasserie ihr Bestes gaben und dem wohl verdienten Wein ausgiebig zusprachen, tanzten die Gäste auf den Tischen, Konfettis und Papierschlangen flogen durch die Luft.
Angesichts der von Jahr zu Jahr ausgelassenen werdenden Stimmung begann sich der Kronenhalle-Besitzer Gustav Zumsteg schon vor langer Zeit Sorgen um seine an den Wänden hängenden Meisterwerke zu machen und suchte nach einer Lösung. Er fand sie, indem er die wertvollen Bilder durch in der Grösse passende, von Künstlern gemalte fasnächtliche Sujets ersetzte. Auch die zahlreichen verglasten Grafiken und Fotos von berühmten Kronenhalle-Gästen liess Gustav Zumsteg durch kleinere fasnächtliche Bilder abdecken. Viele dieser Bilder wurden beschädigt oder gingen im Laufe der Jahre verloren, wurden aber immer wieder ersetzt. Die Kronenhalle verzichtet in Zukunft auf Fasnachtsdekoration.

Die letzten Fasnachtsdekorationen der Kronenhalle die jetzt zur Versteigerung kommen, hat Gustav Zumstegs Star-Designer, der Franzose André Barrieu, gemalt. Er war während 35 Jahren der wichtigste Entwerfer der Stofffirma Abraham, die Gustav Zumsteg besass.
André Barrieu sagte in einem Interview: „Gustav Zumsteg était un genie du sentir.“. Von André Barrieu könnte man sagen, dass er ein Genie der Ausführung war. Beide überliessen dem Gespür den Vorhang vor dem Konzept, was den ausserordentlichen Erfolg der Textilfirma Abraham bei der Paris Couturiers und besonders bei Yves Saint-Laurent erklärte.
Über André Barrieu berichtete die Weltkunst anlässlich der Ausstellung der Stoffkreationen der legendären Firma Abraham im Landesmuseum Zürich 2011, eine kleine Anekdote: Eines Tages rief Yves Saint-Laurent Gustav Zumsteg an und sagte: „Ich möchte gerne eine Haute-Couture-Kollektion machen mit Stoffen, die stark von Pflanzen aus meinem Garten in Marrakesch inspiriert sind.“ Gustav Zumsteg sandte André Barrieu nach Marrakesch, wo er drei Wochen im Garten von Yves Saint-Laurent Aquarelle malte, die die Grundlage der nächste Kollektion des Modekönigs waren (CF Weltkunst, Ausgabe Februar 2011).
Der gleiche Künstler hat unsere Fasnachtsbilder in Aquarell geschaffen. Wegen der reichen floralen Thematik könnte man noch heute glauben, ein Hauch des zauberhaften Saint-Laurent Gartens zu spüren. Auch strahlen diese Bilder eine gewisse Noblesse aus, die ein Merkmal der Persönlichkeit Gustav Zumstegs war.
Die am Ende der Beschreibung stehenden Zahlen oder Buchstaben beziehen sich auf den Aufhängeplan der Kronenhalle. Dieser Plan liegt bei Koller auf, auf Wunsch wird gerne Auskunft gegeben. Bei einigen Aquarellen arbeitete der Künstler mit sogenannten „Repentirs“, schnitt Teile aus der Komposition aus und ersetzte sie mit Anderen.

Buyer's Premium

2.1 In addition to the bid price, the Purchaser must pay a surcharge of 25 % on such bid price.

2.2 If the winning bid is placed in the course of an internet live online auction ("Online Auction"), the surcharges are subject to the conditions published on the respective Internet sites.

3.1 The items are auctioned in the condition existing at the time of the successful bid.

3.2 The items are described to the best of our knowledge and belief. However, Koller cannot accept any liability for the details provided in the catalogue. The items can be inspected during the preview. The Purchaser is therefore invited to inspect an item prior to the auction and, possibly with the support of an independent specialist advisor, to form its own opinion of the correspondence between the lot and the catalogue description. For the specifications of the items the print edition of the catalogue in the German language (including any later amendments) shall be exclusively applicable. Koller reserves the right to call in experts or specialists of its choice to give an opinion and to rely upon that opinion. Koller cannot be held liable for the correctness of such opinions. Neither any such expert opinions or reports, nor the descriptions of items provided by Koller or other statements pertaining to an item (including statements pertaining to the value thereof) constitute explicit or implicit warranties.
