Notes

A.W.M. Odé (1865-1955) studied under Eugène Lacomblé (1828-1905) in The Hague. August Rodin was his main inspiration and he worked according the 19th Century tradition. His portraits of Richard Hol (1896), now in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, and of Christiaan Huygens (1898) at the Scheveningseweg in The Hague are still in that 'old fashion' tradition. A development in style can be seen in the Caland monument in Rotterdam dating from 1907.
