(waterstain with spotting at the bottom of the quires, marg. foxing, sm. hole in f. 43, ff. 87-88 misplaced after f. 94; 2nd work: outer margin short touching the map). - Third ed. (1st ed.: 1694) of this iconographic publication showing the castles and monasteries of Brabant. Trilingual Latin-French-Dutch printing. The first work is illustrated (complete) with a nice front. engr. by A. van Diepenbeeck, identical to the front. of previous ed., engr. dedication to the "Staten Generaal der Vereenigde Nederlanden", 6 double-page maps (the Duchy of Brabant, each of the 4 districts, and Antwerp), 206 beautiful views of castles and leisure places, churches, abbeys and convents (in-text, single, double or folding; cancellans plate pasted on f. 34); and the "schema metallorum" on f. 7v. Etchings by G. Bouttats, H. Cause, J. Harrewijn... after F. Bauduin, W. Hollar, J. van Croes, and J. van Werden, etc. At the end, an 8-page catalog of books printed by P. Vander Aa. - The second work, "L'érection de toutes les terres, seigneuries & familles titrées du Brabant, prouvée par des lettres patentes, tirez des originaux [...]", is a collection of extracts from letters patent, dated from Charles V to Leopold I (1518 to 1694), concerning various Brabant lands. This complementary work, sometimes missing, is also found separately. Ill. (complete) with 1 double-page map of the Duchy of Brabant (the same as in the 1st work and therefore often missing), 1 engr. dedication leaf, and 7 views of castles in text. - Ref. Contemp. overl. vellum tooled in gilt, double border with rolls on the boards, flower tool in the corners, large corner tools and lozenge-shaped center-plate, spine divided and decorated with a flower tool, large red leather title label (possibly posterior), a.e.g. (sl. soiling and stains in a part of the lower margins, sm. split on one joint, sm. hole on the lower turn-in). Nice copy.

Auction - Terms of sale

The purchaser shall pay, strictly cash, the hammer price, in €, together with a premium of 25 %, eventually plus the resale tax, if applicable: 4 % for hammer prices from € 2000 on, only for original art and if the author died less than 70 years ago.
The auction follows the order indicated by the catalogue. The biddings start at about 80 % of the lowest estimate and each bid must be +/? 10% higher than the previous one. In case of a dispute the lot will be called again.
The auctioneer has the right to refuse a bid, and this without further explanation.
Each buyer by making a bid acknowledges the conditions of sale and the fact that he has inspected the purchased item.
The auctioneer has the right to split a lot or join several lots.
Lots with two or more titles, series or periodicals, or lots with a mention "n.c." and 'sold w.a.f.'are not collated and cannot be returned.
Each buyer is supposed to buy for his own account and cannot claim any commission. Each bidder should inspect the lots during the exhibition. Under no circumstances can an item, once sold, be returned. For lots bought via a bidding order remarks or complaints, also concerning the authenticity of the items, should be formulated within 2 weeks after the auction. After that delay no item can be returned.
