signed 'C. Bestland' (lower right) and signed and dated on the backing paper 'Painted by C Bestland 1797'
oval, 3 in. (76 mm.) high, modern silver-gilt frame with glazed reverse

Provenance

According to a handwritten letter which accompanies the miniature the portrait was given in 1837 to Mrs. Fry of Upton Lane, West Ham by Princess Sophia of Gloucester and before this was in the collection of Queen Charlotte.
