CATALOGUE NOTE

Although this picture came into the collection at a later date, it shares many of the characteristics of the bird pictures that entered the collection during the first half of the 18th century and which were dispersed in the sales in London in March 1758. George Vertue who visited Easton Neston in the 1730s also made reference to Charles Collins in his notebooks "Charles Collins Bird Painter, lately dead 1744. Painted all sorts of Birds & Game & Fowls.... his manner tolerable free & masterly"
