Listing 425 copies of this subscriber’s issue, illustrated with brightly hued renditions of provincial New Zealand scenes, including the Pink and White Terraces destroyed in the eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886. Topographical artist and founder member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, Barraud travelled widely in both the North and South Island. This work is the climax of his artistic endeavours, carried to London for printing by lithographers C.F. Kell. William T.L. Travers (1819-1903), naturalist and politician, founded the New Zealand Institute and was one of the earliest explorers of Nelson province, New Zealand.
