Notes

The sitters married on 8 July 1818 in Amsterdam. Thomas Jackson was a glass maker and an art dealer in Amsterdam. His atelier was situated at the Kalverstraat 100. As a glass maker and dealer Jackson made several exclusive protection glasses for Hodges' famous pastels and pictures and also sold the artist's works to his clientele.

Judging from the costumes of the sitters, the present lot is to be dated towards the 1820s. It is highly likely that these portraits were executed just after the sitters' marriage in 1818.
