Collection Charles Leroux and thence by descent.

A student of Corot, he was advised and influenced also by Rousseau. He painted mainly scenes around Fontainebleau and the Loire. Baudelaire refers to his work at the Salon in 1846 (where he exhibited on a regular basis), admiring his sincere approach to colour and nature. The Musée d'Orsay and Musée de Nantes are amongst those who exhibit his works.
