Sculpteur animalier, graveur et céramiste, Charles Louis Eugène Virion est né à Ajaccio en 1865. Elève à Paris de Jean-Paul Aubé et Charles Gauthier, il expose au Salon des Artistes Français dès 1886 et remporte plusieurs prix. En 1900, il participe à l'Exposition Universelle avant de se consacrer à la sculpture animalière à partir de 1913. La majorité de ses oeuvres sont conservées aujourd'hui aux musées de Calais, Nemours, Rochefort, Saint-Dizier, Wyoming et Sao Paulo

A PATINATED BRONZE GROUP OF TWO DANGLING APES BY CHARLES LOUIS EUGENE VIRION, CIRCA 1900

Animalier sculptor, engraver and ceramist, Charles Louis Eugène Virion was born in Ajaccio in 1865. He studied in Paris under Jean-Paul Aubé and Charles Gauthier and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français as soon as 1886, winning many awards. In 1900, he takes part in the Expostion Universelle before devoting himself to wildlife sculpture from 1913. Most of Virion's sculptures reside today in the collections of the Calais, Nemours, Rochefort, Saint-Dizier, Wyoming and Sao Paulo museums
