Signed on the obverse with monogram and dated CRB 1830, signed on the reverse, dated and inscribed Portrait of Capυn R. H. King RN/ painted by/ C R Bone/ 47 Charlotte Street/ Portland Place/ London/ in 1830, silver frame.

Notes


Richard King was the 6th son of a Suffolk parson and joined the Navy in May 1805. He served as a lieutenant on board HMS Shannon under Captain Broke in the successful action against the Chesapeak off Boston on 1 June 1813. In 1838, he played a leading part in the capture of Aden. His wife was painted in miniature by Sir William John Newton.
