Notes

William Mineard Bennett (1778-1858) studied under Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830) before establishing his career as a miniaturist and portrait painter in oil. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1812 and 1835 thereafter he moved to Paris under the patronage of the Duc de Berri. Two of his self-portraits are in the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, Exeter.
