Notes

Charlotte-Gabrielle Besnard, née Dubray, was taught sculpture by her father, Gabriel-Vital Dubray. She first exhibited at the Salon in 1874 and was awarded a silver medal in 1900. Dubray married the painter Albert Besnard, who was director of the French Academy in Rome. She was a sociétaire of the Société des Beaux-Arts and exhibited a series of portrait busts at the Rome Academy from 1875-1878.
