Quarto (304 x 245mm). 43 black and white photographs. Original black cloth, spine lettered in silver, front cover lettered in blind, original photo-illustrated dust-jacket (small abrasion on rear endpaper, dust-jacket edges creased and with short tears at the folds, lower panel sunned).

FIRST EDITION, THE RARE HARDCOVER ISSUE. 'A singularly original work of art, both passionate and partisan' (The Photobook). A key book in post-war British photography, for which Killip won the Henri Cartier-Bresson prize. The Open Book, pp.340-41 (recording only the issue in wrappers); The Photobook, vol. II, p.299.
