CHURCHILL, Winston S. (1874-1965). Autograph letter signed ('Winston S. Churchill') to Sir John Anderson [later 1st Viscount Waverley], 10 Downing Street, 10 October 1941, on his engagement (to his second wife, Ava), and 'Let me congratulate you on the step you have decided to take', with a compliment also on his future wife, sending also Clementine's good wishes, one page, 8vo, envelope signed.

The 'greatest administrator of his age' (ODNB), Sir John Anderson was Lord President of the Council in Churchill's wartime government from October 1940, becoming chancellor of the exchequer in September 1943.
