Circle of William Hudson (1787-1860). Miniature portrait of Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (1815-1852). head and shoulders, enamel (minor damage). 3 x 2.5cm., mounted as a bracelet clasp within a crystal-set gold frame surmounted with rose diamond and seed pearl-mounted coronet indicating the rank of a Countess, the reverse with hair compartment, later suspension ring. * Ada was the only legitimate child of Lord Byron and his wife Anne Isabella Milbanke. In 1835, aged 19, she married William King, 8th Baron King, later 1st Earl of Lovelace. The date of the miniature is not known but the coronet was presumably added after her husband was created Earl of Lovelace in 1838
