CLARA MONTALBA RWS (BRITISH 1842-1929) A HAZY VENETIAN DAY watercolour, signed in pencil and dated 1925 37cm x 26.5cm Label verso: Glasgow Educational Art Union, 1928, Artist's Name: Clara Montalba, R.W.S., Title: A Hazy Venetian Day Note : Clara studied in Paris under Eugene Isabey and later in Venice, where her family moved, at the Accademia di Belle Arti in the 1880s and 1890s. Clara was a regular contributor to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition during the 1870s. She attained international recognition following exhibitions in Europe and America. She specialized in watercolours, most notably scenes from her family's home in Venice, where she lived at the end of the 19th century. Her work was exhibited at the 1893 exposition of British Women Painters. Between 1879 and 1889 she exhibited her work at the prestigious Grosvenor Gallery, showing a series of scenes painted in Venice, which captured the unique mood and atmosphere of Venetian life. Died Venice.
