Notes

Conceived in 1963.

This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the legal heir to the artist's work.

Calm and enduring geometric volumes articulated as a continuum of well defined planes make up a piece of internal balance, inner rhythm and rich content. As noted by A. Xydis, the curator of the artist's 1966 showing at the Venice Biennale, "Loukopoulos maintains a firm rational grip on the abstractive process, rejoining his distant fellow sculptors from the Cycladic era. He is therefore recognised as one of the few Greek sculptors who, having fully assimilated both his age-old heritage and the breakthroughs of the Parisian avant-garde, have managed to create sculptural works that are relevant in our times, restoring the missing link after 4500 years with one of the most fertile yet overlooked periods of ancient Greek sculpture, the one that produced the art of Cycladic figurines." υ1

Accentuating the schematization of form, avoiding narrative features and relying on austere structures and economy of means, Loukopoulos, this leading figure of postwar sculpture and pioneer of Greek abstraction, conveys the viewer to an archetypal world of pure rhythms. υ2
