Description

Collaert (Hans, II, 1566-1628). Perseus and Andromeda, copper engraving by Collaert after Philippe Galle, on laid paper, bears watermark of a shield with diagonal cross and B above, trimmed to plate mark, encroaching on engraved border towards upper left corner, 25.5. x 16.5 cm (10 x 6.5 ins) The two lines of verse printed at the bottom of the image are taken from the Elegiarum of Sextus Propertius, Book One, which describe in verse the lives of the gods. With printed collector's marks of B÷hm and De Pokorny to lower margin verso, and additionally marked in pencil St. Georges 1930. (1)
