This outstanding citrus engraving is from the first edition of Jan Commelin’s work Nederlantze Hesperides, dat is, Oeffening en Gebruik van de Limoen- en Oranje-Boomen, gestelt na den aardt, en climaat der Nederlanden. The work was published in 1676 in the Netherlands.

Nederlantze Hesperides is considered one of the most important botanical works in the 17th century. The work was used to educate about the cultivation of the citrus plant.
