First edition, folio, illustrated with fourteen full-page stencil-colored plates on rice paper, and many black and white illustrations; bound in the original colorful publisher's boards, Japanese-style binding, with silk ties and spine, edge wear to binding, short tears, and a little surface abrasion, 14 x 10 1/2 in.
Conder was a British architect who lived in Japan and built several important buildings there in the Victorian era. This work is the first written and published in the English language on the subject of ikebana, Japanese flower arranging.
