He studied at the University of Washington before moving to Chicago, and exhibited throughout the 1930s-40s, at the Art Institute of Chicago, Portland Art Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, San Francisco Art Association, Carnegie Institute, Whitney Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. His work is in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art.
