Notes

Copleston Warre Bampfylde was the only son of John Bampfylde, M.P. for Devonshire. He resided at Hestercombe in Somerset and exhibited his works at the Royal Academy and elsewhere between 1763 and 1783. He was for some time Colonel of the Somersetshire militia and it is likely that it was in this capacity that he visited Torbay in 1782 and saw the fleet manoeuvres in the harbour. He died at Hestercombe on 29th August 1791
