NOTE

The flower still life genre was traditionally reserved for female artists. Corry Slager was the sister of Piet Slager Jnr (1871-1938) and of Frans Slager (1876-1953) and was a daughter of Piet Slager Snr (1841-1912). Her brothers as well as her father were well-known artists in Brabant. Piet Slager Snr was renowned for his portraits and genre pieces, Piet Slager Jnr focussed on landscapes and Frans Slager was an expert in townscapes in Brabant and had a preference for old church buildings.

Corry Slager mostly painted flower and fruit still lifes in a style that sometimes reminds of the still lifes of Sientje Mesdag-van Houten, the wife of the Hague School painter H. W. Mesdag.
