Lot 545: Cornelis Beelt (Haarlem c. 1660-before 1702)

NOTES Known primarily as a painter of beach scenes comparable to the present picture, Beelt was a native of Haarlem whose work was strongly influenced by that of Willem Kool. His beaches are generally populated with numerous figures and frequently depict either, and sometimes both, a fish-seller and a horse and rider, for example the picture in the Staatliche Kunsthalle, Karlsruhe (inv. no. 1871).
