Notes

THE PROPERTY OF A BELGIAN PRIVATE COLLECTOR
Cornelis van de Velde was the son of Willem van de Velde the Younger (1633-1707). Only a few works by Cornelis are known, which attest to a more decorative approach to the subject than his father's. He set up shop in Greenwich, where he may have died in 1717. He was buried next to his father in St. James's, Piccadilly.
