The softness of handling, sensitivity of expression, approach to details of drapery and use of the vellum support are all characteristic of Visscher's portrait drawings. The present work can be compared with signed drawings by the artist, such as the Portrait of a Man, sold Amsterdam, Sotheby Mak van Waay, 18 November 1980, lot 124.
