PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF GITTA SHEROVER, SOLD TO BENEFIT THE GABRIEL SHEROVER FOUNDATION JERUSALEM

Miles Sherover, an oil industry magnate from Venezuela met and married Gitta Sherover in Jerusalem in the 1960s. Beginning in 1971, the couple gave generously to the Sherover Theatre in Jerusalem. After Miles' death in 1976, Mrs. Sherover continued their philanthropy, which for more than thirty years has touched the lives of many people throughout Israel. The untimely death of her son Gabi in 1988 and the assassination of her close friend, Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin, in November 1995, were great personal tragedies. Nonetheless, Mrs. Sherover decided to live her life positively and to continue to find ways to use her fortune creatively for the betterment of Israel.

In 1989, Mrs. Sherover established The Gabriel Sherover Foundation in memory of her beloved son. Their first project was The Gabriel Sherover Promenade in East Talpiot, Jerusalem, dedicated in 1990. Its design was chosen to represent Israel at the 1991 Venice Biennale. Mrs. Sherover also funded The Gabriel Sherover Information Center for Israeli Art at the Israel Museum. She then embarked on the project that was particularly close to her heart, building the Beit Gabriel (Gabriel's House) on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Beit Gabriel has served as the site of numerous historic occasions: Mikhail Gorbachev flew to Israel on her invitation to inaugurate the project and King Hussein of Jordan was entertained by Mrs. Sherover there on his first official visit to Israel. Mrs. Sherover made other generous donations over the years to Israeli universities, hospitals and schools, as well as to
individuals in need.

The Foundation remains to interpret and to realize her vision. The proceeds of this sale have been committed to the building of a cultural centre in Jerusalem in proximity to the Gabriel Sherover promenade.
