Lot 1: Corneliu Antonescu - The Soldier

Corneliu Antonescu is one of Romania's finest contemporary artists. His works are in the Tyler Collection of Romanian and Modern Art at the University of Tasmania Art Museum. Corneliu Antonescu was born in 1944 in Comana. He graduated from the Grigorescu Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest in 1970, and between 1969 and 1984 was apprentice to the renowned Romanian painter Corneliu Baba. In the 1970s he took part in exhibitions across Romania and Europe. He emigrated to the United States in 1984 and became an American citizen in 1990.
