Description

"La Caballeria" (The Cavalry), May, 1960/printed 1980s. Gelatin silver print on Agfa paper. 22 x 33 cm (30,5 x 40,3 cm). Signed and annotated by the photographer in pencil on the verso.
Raul Corrales took this image of the victorious rebels in Cuba in May 1960 and later became an official photographer of the Castro regime. Along with Alberto Diaz "Korda" and Osvaldo Salas, Corrales is one of the leading figures of the so-called "Epic Photography of the Cuba Revolution" period that followed Fidel Castro's rise to power in 1959. He is also known for important photographs of the April 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion. - Some surface soiling and a few oil spots, otherwise in good condition.
