(1712-1781), and by descent to Lawrence Dundas, 2nd Marquess of Zetland, P.C., K.G., Aske Hall, Richmond, Yorkshire; Christie’s, London, 31 January 1947, lot 23, as Jacob van Ruisdael, ‘A woody landscape, with Ferryboat: a river flowing towards the foreground with a ferryboat laden with horsemen and cattle; rising ground on right to clump of trees - the figures are by Jan Asselyn - 58 in. by 72 in.’ (150 gns. to Raeder). Anonymous sale; Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels, 20 December 1950, lot 74, as Frederick de Moucheron, when presumably acquired by the great-great-uncle of the present owner.
