DAVID PORTER (1780-1843). American Naval Officer, Captain and Commodore, Commanded the "Essex" in the War of 1812. Member of the Board of Navy Commissioners (1815-22) and named Commander-in-Chief of the Mexican Navy (1826-29), U.S. Minister to Turkey.
February 20, 1820-Dated, Autograph Document Signed, "D Porter," being a Check, 3.5" x 8", Washington (DC), Very Fine. Usual fine cut and red pencil cancellation and having four small stamp hinge type reinforcements on the blank reverse. Here, he is authorizing the "Office of Discount & Deposit pay to Wm. Morris or bearer Eight Dollars 25 cents". A very nice example of a Check Signed by Naval Commodore David Porter.
