Folio (465 x 315mm.), large engraved wall map of North West Netherlands (including Harlem, Leiden, s'Gravenhage, Amsterdam and Gouda) on 12 double-page sheets, title cartouche and surround on 11 double-page sheets conmprising dedications, armorials of the dedicatees and title on runner banner embellished with cherubs, fruits and flowers, licence by the Staten General on 2 sheets each with decorative surround; together 25 engraved sheets, finely coloured by hand, seventeenth century vellum, some marignal soiling and fraying, slight loss to blue and gold colouring, a few small tears to folding plate

Notes

This large-scale map, compiled by Janz Douw and Steven van Brouchhuysen and engraved by Cornelis Danckerts, originally issued in 1647, was intended to be assembled into a wall-map in four series of three leaves. Between 1685 and 1688 the plates were brought up to date and the cartouche re-embellished by Romeyn de Hooghe and the map re-issued.
