Description

6 parts in 1 vol., 4to: [30]-96-[2], [8]-76-[4], 88 pp.; 65 pl. and 20 ff. ms. annotations "Kraütgarten oder küchen Gemüss garten wass in Janüario undt febrüario zu thünn ist [...]" at the end. - Later, corrected impression of this work consisting of 6 parts, each with a separate title. In the first two parts, van der Groen (1624-1671), gardener of the Prince of Orange, discusses the design and planting of gardens for country houses and castles. Ill. with an engr. title and 15 engr. full-page pl. for the 1st part, a woodcut vign. on title and 45 large and 2 smaller woodcuts representing perspective views and plans of garden designs, depictions of fountains, sundials, flowerbeds, labyrinths, trellises and "lust arbors" for the 2nd part. In the 4 other parts, the physician Nylandt discusses the activity during the 12 months of the year (planting and harvesting vegetables, fruit, herbs and so on), the beneficial effects of various crops, the preparation of medicines and remedies for humans and animals, apiculture, ending with kitchen recipes, instructions for slaughtering animals, preparing jam. These parts ill. with an engr. title-vign. and 7 full-page woodcuts for the 3rd part, an engr. title-vign. and one full-page woodcut for the 4th part, and two engr. vign. on title, one for each last part (5 & 6). Overall ill. with woodcuts in-text. Printed in roman and Gothic type. - Ref. STCN. - Not in Nissen or Pritzel. - Prov. Stamp on title (faded).

Auction - Terms of sale

The purchaser shall pay, strictly cash, the hammer price, in €, together with a premium of 25 %, eventually plus the resale tax, if applicable: 4 % for hammer prices from € 2000 on, only for original art and if the author died less than 70 years ago.
The auction follows the order indicated by the catalogue. The biddings start at about 80 % of the lowest estimate and each bid must be +/? 10% higher than the previous one. In case of a dispute the lot will be called again.
The auctioneer has the right to refuse a bid, and this without further explanation.
Each buyer by making a bid acknowledges the conditions of sale and the fact that he has inspected the purchased item.
The auctioneer has the right to split a lot or join several lots.
Lots with two or more titles, series or periodicals, or lots with a mention "n.c." and 'sold w.a.f.'are not collated and cannot be returned.
Each buyer is supposed to buy for his own account and cannot claim any commission. Each bidder should inspect the lots during the exhibition. Under no circumstances can an item, once sold, be returned. For lots bought via a bidding order remarks or complaints, also concerning the authenticity of the items, should be formulated within 2 weeks after the auction. After that delay no item can be returned.
