For the attribution, compare with a signed painting by Van Alsloot, representing Venus and Adonis, which was sold Paris, Piasa, 13 June 1997, lot 15. The figures in the present work are probably by another hand most likely to be Alsloot's principle collaborator, Henderick de Clerck (circa 1570-1629).
