There is some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. The marble has been outside and there is weathering to the surface in areas; it appears to have been subsequently cleaned. The siren's proper right arm is reattached at the shoulder and hand. There are naturally occurring inclusions to the marble. Areas with inclusions include: the proper left side of the boy's head, his chest, the siren's neck, her proper right arm and chest, the boy's proper right thigh, his proper right leg and foot, and to the proper left wing. There is some veining to the marble consistent with the material including to the boy's proper left shoulder, his abdomen, and his thighs. There are a few dirt marks, including to the siren's proper right elbow, the top of the wings, and to the waves. There are a few minor chips and abrasions to some of the high points, including the tail and waves at the back, and there are some larger chips around the bottom edge of the base.
