Description

DEUCHAR, David (1743-1808). A Collection of Etchings after the most Eminent Masters of the Dutch and Flemish Schools. Particularly Rembrandt, Ostade, Cornelius Bega and Van Vliet Accompanied with Sundry Miscellaneous Pieces and a Few Original Designs. Edinburgh: [no publisher], "Decr. 22 1803". 4to (268 x 218mm). Mounted etched frontispiece, engraved title with elaborate decorative border, and 69 etched plates mounted on 60 sheets within pen-and-ink ruled frames only (6 lacking [ie 6 pen-and-ink frames without etchings], title lightly spotted, occasional light spotting and staining, plates offset). Finely bound in contemporary red straight-grained morocco, covers with a wide border of alternating fleur-de-lys and flower heads, spine gilt in compartments, gilt edges (extremities quite heavily rubbed, some scuff marks to lower cover).
