Description

DICKENS, Charles -- SEYMOUR, Robert (1798-1836). Original pencil drawing on card (148 x 164mm) for the first edition of Pickwick (1836-1837), titled on recto 'Mr. Pickwick at the grand review' with 'page 38' in upper corner, an alternative title as used in the first edition on verso, reading: 'Mr L. in chase of his hat', wrongly ascribed to 'Phiz'.

BROWNE, Hablot K. (1815-1882, 'Phiz'). Original pencil drawing on card (148 x 164mm) for the first edition of Pickwick, titled 'Mr. Pickwick and his friends, returned from Muggleton, page 76' on recto and 'Mr. Wardle and his friends under the influence of the Salmon' on verso; and two apparently unpublished original pencil drawings to the same work on paper (162 x 185mm), both untitled, attributed to 'Phiz', one depicting a chaotic family scene, the other a group around a fire at an inn. Provenance: Three with small modern labels initialed 'RO'on verso. (4)
