Dieterich, Louis P. (Am.1842-1922). Portait of a woman. c.1895. Oil on canvas. Ornate gilt composition frame. Signed and dated ''L. Dieterich 1895'' at center right. 20'' x 16''. Frame: 32'' x 28''. In 1883, J.P. Dieterich exhibited at the National Academy of Design. One of his more famous paintings is of actor Edwin Booth, an actor and the brother of John Wilkes Booth, who assasinated President Abraham Lincoln. The portrait is in the Hartford County Courthouse. Dieterich painted portraits of prominent political leaders including several Governors and U.S. Senators some of which are in the West Virginia State Museum, Elkins College and the West Virginia Historical Art Collection.
