Count Johan Otto Wrangel af Sauss (1777-1847), facing left in blue uniform with gold-figured yellow collar, pleated white lace jabot and black stock, light brown curly hair, wearing the badge of the Royal Swedish Campaign medal signed and dated 'D. Bossi Faciebat 1811' (lower left) 2 in. (51 mm.) diam., silver-gilt frame PROVENANCE Kulla (Smaaland), Sweden. NOTES Count Johan Otto Wrangel enjoyed a brilliant military career, fought in Pomerania in 1805-1807 and retired in 1813. He was made a chamberlain in 1812. We are indebted to Dr Magnus Olausson, Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, for the identification of the sitter, and to Ms Emilia Str”m, Swedish Portrait Archives, Stockholm, for her help in reseraching this miniature.
