* Donald Bain (Scottish 1907-1979), STILL LIFE OF ROSES IN A YELLOW VASE AND A RED APPLE Signed l.r., oil on board 40 x 32cm In 1920, Bain was introduced to the work of the Scottish Colourists, S.J. Peploe and J.D. Fergusson, by 'Glasgow Boy' painter, William York MacGregor. Whilst working in Glasgow shipyards in the early 1940s, he became associated with the New Scottish Group, before moving to France. He exhibited in salons in Paris and was influenced by the rich paint texture and palette of Cézanne. * Artist's Resale Right may apply to this lot.
