Notes

Very little is known of the artist Dutailly, who was born in Lyon towards the end of the 18th century. He was a pupil of Gabriel François Doyen, exhibited in Paris in 1800-1801 and is best known as a genre painter and watercolorist. One of the two designs in this lot, L'imitation de l'antique, was engraved by Thérèse Eléonore Lingée, and a hand-colored impression of this print is in the British Museum. (1)
