Item Overview

Description

Vintage pencil and pastel caricature of Ed Wynn, 12.5 x 19.75, signed in pencil, "Kroll." Matted to an overall size of 20.25 x 30. In fine condition, with a bit of expected light soiling to background of image and scattered toning, soiling, and edge dings to mat. Kroll was an artist for a Berlin newspaper until he left in 1933, wary of the rising power of Adolph Hitler. He immigrated to America in 1933 and was quickly utilized by the Saturday Evening Post, The New York Times, and various other newspapers. While he drew almost every political figure in the world for these publications, his real passion was Hollywood. Kroll produced thousands of great caricatures including presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt through Nixon, Malcolm X, the Beatles, and everyone in between. Oversized.
