Accompanying this lot is a receipt of purchase, an original book plate from Goupil et Cie, 'Musee pour Tous', 1878 No. 79.; and a letter to Miss Hallowell from the artist dated October 8, 1881 in which, in referring to his painting, the artist believes, " it to be one of the best if not the best picture I have painted."
