Theodore Vernes d'Arlande and his wife Anne, n‚e Fauquet (1828-1859); she, facing right in lace-bordered blue silk dress with white bodice adorned with three blue bows, ermine-bordered cloak draped around her arms, gem set pendant suspended from a thin black ribbon about her neck, lace scarf and pink and blue flowers in her centre-parted upswept dark hair; and he, facing right in black coat, brown bordered grey and white waistcoat and black silk cravat, pearl studded gold stickpin, dark hair and sideburns both signed 'Edme. Rousseau' (lower right), the backing paper of the portrait of Anne signed and dated 'Edme Rousseau, pinxit le 30 Dec... 1853' ovals, 4 5/16 in. (109 mm.) high, heavy ormolu easel frames by Alphonse Giroux, Paris, signed, with ribbon and bow cresting (2) PROVENANCE By family descent.
