Edouard Lanteri (French/Brit 1848-1917) - Ludwig Mond, bronze statuette, signed to plinth, h.36cm, the whole raised on a further marble plinth Footnote: An example of this work can be found in the National Portrait Gallery, London, primary collection NPG6359. Born in Kassel, Germany, Mond moved to Britain in 1867 and became one of the foremost industrial chemists of the period. He developed the mass production of alkali for the textile industry, and late ammonia, 'Mond gas', and nickel. He spent part of his large fortune on a collection of early Italian art which he bequeathed to the National Gallery
