Provenienz: Private collection North Germany. After training as a carpenter and turner, Bechteler, a native of Munich, studied there with Heinrich von Zügel and Max Doerner. From 1933 Bechteler lived in Sweden. His work is dominated by the Ångerland riverine landscape and working-class scenes. The present painting was done on one of Bechteler's trips to Paris and shows that he was preoccupied with scenes featuring working men early on. Seine pilots may be the subject matter here.
