Portrait of the American Bark Warren Ordway. Signed and dated "1869" l.l., vessel identified on stern and pennant. Watercolor on paper, 27 x 37 in., in a period molded giltwood frame. Condition: Laid down onto paperboard, repaired tear c.l., tear u.r. sky, retouch, toning.

Provenance: A prominent Cincinnati, Ohio, collector.

Note: The Warren Ordway was built in 1866 in Newburyport, Massachusetts, for Mr. A. Currier of that city. Ephemera related to comparable Edward J. Russell paintings accompanies the lot.

Laid down onto paperboard, repaired tear c.l., tear u.r. sky, retouch, toning. Center left tear 12 3/4 in, from left edge going just above flag into sails with some retouch to blend; upper right tear about 2 3/4 in., some retouch to area around bowsprit appears to be pastel or chalk.
