Edward Lutterell, British c.1650-c.1725- Portrait of a gentleman aged 101; pastel, inscribed and dated 'Anno etat ... 101, 1677', 24x19cm Note: Edward Luttrell began to study law at New Inn, London, in around 1670, but abandoned this to become a pupil of the crayon and pastel portrait painter Edmund Ashfield. He is credited with expanding the technique of crayon drawing by expanding the colours used and by inventing a method of drawing with crayons on copper plates.
